Bee's Knees Knits is a wonderful pattern company from Canada that specializes in infant and young children's knit patterns. All of the patterns use self-patterning sock yarns but these patterns are also wonderful to use with any handpainted or artisan type yarns. The patterns allow you to be creative and create truly one-of-a-kind sweaters by mixing and matching yarns and colors that you like. Bee's Knees Patterns are very well written and provide clear instructions. All of the designs are created by Holli Yeoh.

We first saw Chris Bylsma's designs at a local knitting store when looking for a pattern to use up some of the handspun yarns that were sitting in baskets around the house. The Potpourri shawl jumped out because it uses a variety of yarns and textures and colors and gauge is not important. Chris is one of the only designers I have seen whose patterns can be readily adapted for different yarns. Take a look through at some of our favorite designs of hers. We chose patterns that worked well with yarns that we carry or can be modified to use one of ours or your own handspun or handpainted yarns. We are glad to help you choose yarns.
Make sure to visit Chris's website to see some of her other patterns! We can special order any pattern for you and help with yarn suggestions.

Gardiner Yarn Works is the creative outlet for former software architect and company founder Chrissy Gardiner, who learned to knit from her grandmother at age 10. Chrissy is a regular contributor to Interweave Knits magazine as well as various pattern compilation books and yarn company pattern lines. Her biggest challenge these days, besides making sure her printer doesn't run out of ink, is keeping her children from running with knitting needles."
We are very excited to have Chrissy's patterns on our site in PDF format! Make sure to visit Chrissy at her blog and also on her Ravelry page!

Ilga Leja Handknit Design
Classic Knitting Designs for the Handknitter
Ilga Leja's patterns are finally here at One Planet Yarn and Fiber. Of course we had to carry just about every single one of her patterns because many of them incorporate the beautiful Hand Maiden and Fleece Artist Yarns we carry. Her patterns are incredibly well written with charts and schematics. You will enjoy making any one of her gorgeous designs.
Many of Ilga's patterns are now available as complete kits. If there is a kit you are interested in, look in the HandMaiden Kits and Fleece Artist Kits section or in the sweater or shawl kit sections of our website.

Designer Jacquelyn Landry gained much of her experience behind a sewing machine, learning all the ins and outs of garment construction and what works on different body types. She was taught to crochet by her grandmother at an early age, and finally gave up on finding someone to teach her to knit and taught herself. Make sure to read Jacquelyn's blog.
"I'm really inspired by vintage fashion and the way it caters to a woman's curves, both great and small. My ultimate design goal is to be able to knit something that feels as good on your body as it looks. People look their best when they feel good about themselves, and whether or not they realize it everyone has something going for them. They key is to learn to embrace who you are and discover what that magic something is, and then translate that into knitwear that works in your day to day life. My designs are geared to take out the guesswork. They are a marriage of classic elegance and practicality sometimes with a healthy dose of sass thrown in for fun."
We are thrilled to offer you Jacquelyn Landry's patterns in download format.

CROCHET & KNITTING PATTERNS
My personal crusade is to make crochet motif’s sexy & desirable.
They normally have a bad reputation, ever noticed the un-loved granny square blankets lurking in the depths of many charity shops? The motifs deserve a bit more respect and love, hence my crusade!
I make pretty things exclusively using The Natural Dye Studio’s luxury yarns. The subtle plant dyed colours lend themselves to being mixed together in one big project. I am fascinated by the gaps between the joined motifs, they often form a secondry un-planned design that you will only discover after joining them. I like suprises - :-)

Melissa Wehrle is the Creative Director for One Planet Yarn and Fiber. For her full-time day job, she works as a contemporary designer for a sweater manufacturer company in New York. Melissa attended the knitwear program at the renowned Fashion Institute of Technology and graduated in 2002.
She has designed patterns for Stitch n Bitch Nation, Magknits, Hipknits and Sundara Yarn. She also has several patterns for sale on her website.
We are very fortunate to have Melissa as an integral part of the One Planet Yarn and Fiber team. She is responsible for pattern line development and working with our design team to make sure all of our patterns conform to our high standards. You can be assured that when you purchase a pattern that was developed by One Planet Yarn and Fiber, it has been carefully tested and edited. Many overlook this but when you are investing in a great deal of money to buy yarn for a project, it is extremely important that the pattern be carefully formatted and edited by professionals in the knit wear industry.

Keep watching this space for more exciting sweater patterns by Melissa in the future. Several are in the planning stage!

About Noni
Nora Bellows was taught to knit by her mom when she was 12 but did not discover the world of felted bags until 2000. Her first bag was made from a simple pattern, but she immediately began to innovate. Soon, her unusual creations attracted the attention of customers in the Baltimore knit shop (Woolworks) where she worked (like so many of us) to support her knitting habit. In addition, she began making bags exclusively for private commission and for sale in a very few small boutiques around the East Coast.
While at Woolworks, Nora also taught literature and composition at the University of Maryland, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and a PhD in Renaissance English Literature. After the completion of her degree in 2004, she moved (for love!) to Austin, Texas, where interest in her bags came more from other knitters than those seeking to purchase them. Her extensive background in teaching came in handy as she developed classes of all sorts: one on continental knitting, another on fixing mistakes, a third on making a felted bag, several on felted flowers, and, her personal favorite, an intense multi-day workshop that focused on designing one's own felted bag.
It wasn't until 2005 that she, after much pestering from her knitting students and Pat Rohmer (owner of Bluebonnet Yarn Shoppe in Cedar Park Texas), began to make her designs available to the intrepid knitter. During the Fall/Winter 2005 season she founded Noni Designs and launched a line of eight fashionable, innovative bag and embellishment patterns that are as beautiful as the designs they feature.

We are thrilled to introduce our newest indie designer, the talented Melanie Gibbons of Pink Lemon Twist. Melanie has been knitting for over 10 years and has been designing since 2005. Her first design was Leda's Dream which was the design for the Original Mystery Stole. She also designed and hosted Mystery Stole 2 (Scheherazade) and Mystery Stole 3 (Swan Lake). This year she has been designing sock patterns. When she designs a sock pattern she includes 2 separate designs in a single pattern: one is easy and fast and the other more complex. She has ideas for more sock patterns and more stoles bouncing around in her head.
You can read all about Melanie's knitting adventures on her blog. We are very excited to be able to offer Melanie's patterns to you as pdf downloads.

Written by Sara Lucas: I grew up on a small family farm in Western Oregon where my love of wool first took root. Though I learned to knit as a young girl, I didn’t pick it up with passion until after college and I have been at it full bore ever since. In 1998, I started teaching classes, designing/altering patterns and working in my local yarn store (Atelier in San Francisco). Then, in 2002, Allison Isaacs and I pooled our creative resources to open ImagiKnit in San Francisco. The shop quickly became the premier Bay Area destination for inspiring yarns and original patterns and has been vaunted in many publications, including Knitter’s Magazine. My first book (Holiday Knits), co-written with Allison Isaacs, came out in the fall of 2005.
The most important tenent of my knitting philosophy is to enjoy your knitting. To that end, I recently started a new chapter in my life, moving back to Oregon in order to concentrate more on writing/design and on Yarn of the Month Club, a subscription service for fiber fanatics (www.yarnofthemonth.com). Now that I have finished my fourth book, due out in the fall of 2007, I am ready to enjoy some cashmere!

I am a person who loves knitting and all fibery pursuits, surprise!
Knitted lace is my first and enduring love, and when I learned how wonderfully lace combines with beads, I began incorporating beads into most of my designs. Socks and fingerless gloves have become the latest additions to my design repertoire.
In 2004, I began to branch out with designs published elsewhere than under my own name. I now have a growing list of designs which have appeared in books, online magazines, and a variety of subscription clubs.
