The simplest version of this shawl may be worked in any yarn and on any size needle—a textured novelty yarn knits up quickly into a spectacular fringed wrap. For a light and lacy traitional shawl, choose a fingering yarn and knit the version which ends with lace border that is easy to master

Hand Maiden Sea Silk or other lace or fingering yarns by Hand Maiden, Fleece Artist Sea Wool, Yarn Botanika Radiance merino and tencel, Lanas Puras Melosa lace weight or fingering weight plus many of the Indie Yarn company yarns are lace weight or fingering weight. Also consider any of the handspun yarns for this or your own handspun! You basically can use any yarn and adapt the pattern. Gauge Note:  This shawl can be worked in any gauge, but it is essential to knit a 4” swatch in garter stitch to test your chosen yarn and needles. Aim for a fabric that is quite loosely knit for the chosen yarn, but appealing in weight. Instructions for the lacy version are based on a gauge of 4 or 5 stitches per inch, but could be knit with much finer wool and a smaller needle for a very delicate shawl.
