You are here: Home > Yarns > HipKnits-UK > Hipknits - Sari Silk Yarns
Sari silk is yarn that is hand spun from shredded sari remnants in Nepal.  These yarns have extraordinary texture and vibrant color.  They are spun by women in Nepal, many of whom are refugees or have been widowed, abandoned or rescued from forced prostitution.  The spinning of sari silk yarn has created an important and growing cottage industry in Nepal.

Each skein of sari silk weighs about 200 grams and has 300 meters or 328 yards of yarn.  The yarn knits up to a bulky weight at about 3 stitches per inch.  It is a smooth bulky ply yarn available in a variety of colors.  Make sure to wash all finished items in cold water by hand away from other items in case there is any color bleeding.  Then dry naturally.
